"How can we play nice with each other on the playground. How can we be nice forever. I want to know how we can be nice. I don't want anybody to yell at each other." These are the words I read this afternoon when I came across one of Maria's many art projects that she left on the table. My initial thought was that there was some bullying going on at recess in school. When she got home this evening I sat down to talk to her about it. I asked her what it was about. She told me it was a poem she wrote about the whole world. She wants everyone in the world to stop yelling at each other and be nice. All I can say is, wow. At seven years old she is wiser and more compassionate than many adults are. Here I thought this was about some silly playground fighting. No, it is about much, much more than that. It is amazing how at seven years old she is so sensitive to what is going on in the world around her. We don't watch the news when she is around, and we monitor what she watches on TV. She came up with this poem just from her daily observations of life. I agree with you Maria, and I couldn't have said it any better myself.

Through the words of a seven year old....
