What?! Me run a 5K? Yes, I did!!!!

Well, what a busy past couple months it's been! I know I've got a LOT to tell you so if you have not abandoned my poorly neglected blog yet, please don't!! I promise tons of new stories to share very soon!

Let me start with the most recent, and my most proud event, the 5K! This morning I ran my first 5K and am glad to report that I survived! I think I need to start telling this story from the beginning... You all know from my previous blog that I have started exercising and going to the gym.. Well, about a week into that and a couple spins on the elliptical machine later, Mike calls me up one night and says he is signing us up for the ARMY ten-miler held in October in DC... WHAT!!! Apparently he thinks a couple miles prancing on the elliptical machine qualifies me to run ten miles! Now those of you that know me really well know how NOT athletic I am.. I have never run in my life... So my training begins! I've got 6 months to prepare, a good goal to works toward, right? So I've been running, when I started out 6 weeks ago I couldn't even go a quarter mile without feeling like I was going to die and my chest was going to explode out of my body.. It's gotten easier each week and to keep me focused I signed up for a 5K run.. (approximately 3.1 miles..) Which I ran this morning and ROCKED!!! I am so proud of myself, I ran it in 29:33... which is a 9:30 minute/mile pace.. Unbelievable for me since I've been training at a 11:30 minute/mile pace.. YAY me!!!!!!! Mike and the kids came out to support me and Mike was very proud of me as well.. It was a gorgeous morning for running and I had a lot of fun (except for the half hour of torture while I was running... I still hate running.. it hurts.) So that is what I have been up to.. Going to the gym, exercising, running, and feeling great that I am doing something good for myself.. All this in between the usual stuff and kid shuttling (which there has been a LOT of.. more on what the kiddies have been up to later!) Next step, maybe another 5K or perhaps working towards a 10K.. We shall see!!!
